From the Greek, meaning “in service of women” or “a woman who serves” comes the word doula.
She is a childbirth companion, someone who provides continuous support to a woman before, during and after birth. She provides physical, emotional and informational support to the woman and her partner throughout the perinatal period. She holds a safe space for them, encourages and empowers them, and in doing so helps them equip and empower themselves for their new journey together as a family.
